When the Unexpected Happens...

Why does it seem like bad news is worse this time of year? Maybe it's because this is supposed to be a season of rejoicing, making memories, and giving. So when unexpected things happen, loved ones are given a discouraging diagnosis, or relationships are fractured...it just seems to hurt more during this season.

So what do we do with that?

Well....no matter what the time of year, when I am faced with a crisis or a difficulty, I focus on something positive. It helps to shift my perspective.

And you know what?

This time of year brings something absolutely amazing...and really is the best possible news ever!

The true meaning of this season is to celebrate the birth of a baby.

Not just any baby. THE baby.

The baby who would be born with his sole purpose being death.

The baby who would be THE Savior of the entire world.

The baby whom God had promised from the very beginning.

The baby who would be born into humble beginnings, life a sinless life, and die a brutal death.

That baby....God incarnate.

God in the flesh.

God...taking on a form that is beneath Him.

Coming to rescue His creation who rebelled against Him.

The Light of the World...given for us....

All to accomplish a completely ridiculous rescue plan that NONE of us deserve.

THAT is something to be joyful about! And THAT is what gets me through each step of whatever hot mess I'm facing next.

No time is a great time to get bad news. But, if you are facing that this season....know, sweet friend, that there is hope- a hope that is bigger than any mountain you are facing.

His name is Jesus.
